Cemetery Headstones

The Tasmanian Family History Society has transcribed many of the headstones surviving in cemeteries around Tasmania.    All these transcriptions are held by the five Branches around the State - Burnie, Devonport, Launceston, Hobart and Huon. Except for Cornelian Bay and Carr Villa, these transcriptions have been indexed and published as TAMIOT (Tombstones and Memorial Inscriptions of Tasmania). The fiche can be purchased from TFHS Inc. (click HERE for details) and is also on the internet at the State Library's eHeritage site. The 800 sites that these inscriptions have been taken from are also listed on the TFHS web site.

The five branches are currently capturing digital images of all those surviving headstones that are listed in TAMIOT plus new headstones erected since TAMIOT was published. Some of these digital images are already on the eHeritage web site as thumbnail images. High resolution images are available from the respective branches.

The Hobart Branch currently has images for Sorell, Oatlands, Richmond and other Southern Tasmanian areas, and these are available as follows - Transcriptions $5 for the first, and $2.50 for subsequent queries which can be included in the same letter; and photos on A5 paper $20, and $8 for additional copies. All prices PLUS p&p.
